Purely Creative and WeWanna: Some Clarifcation

Post length: 927 words, just over 4 minutes.

About a year ago I wrote a blog post summing up the results of my experiment to claim a couple of prizes from a Purely Creative scratchcard — the type given away in newspapers and magazines — which I had found discarded on a train. The prizes I won were both ‘experiences’ to be provided through a company called WeWanna.

Over the last year this blog post has had quite a number of comments from other people who had gone through the claim process (either through the post or via the telephone or text route), and had also received experience prizes. Quite a number of these comments said how happy people were with the experiences; from the river cruise and hair makeover experience which I won, to the afternoon tea and balloon rides. However in the last month or so the comments have taken a turn for the worse.

There have been a number of people who have commented recently on an apparent dispute between Purely Creative and WeWanna which has lead to them being told their experiences have been cancelled. Some say that they have been told by both companies that the other is at fault, which has left them feeling they have nowhere to turn. In a twist to the tale some people have said that they have been offered, apparently by WeWanna, a “mystery gift” worth hundreds of pounds in return for some kind of deposit payment, or simply as a “gesture of goodwill”. The gift appears, for most of the people commenting, to be “luxury accommodation in Tenerife.”

I ordered a couple of Purely Creative’s scratchcards to see what the current rake of prizes was given the situation with WeWanna. Interestingly the prizes no longer seem to include experience days but are heavily weighted towards cash prizes.

With various different people reaching their own conclusion I wanted to clarify what was really going on, so I decided to follow up with both Purely Creative and WeWanna. I sent them both a similar email briefly summing up the situation I was seeing, pointing them to the comments people had left, and asking them for a comment.

Catherine Cummings, Purely Creative’s MD (and, coincidentally, fellow Lancaster University alumni), got back to me quickly. She confirmed that Purely Creative are currently in dispute with WeWanna and that the case is in the hands of their solicitors. She made it clear that Purely Creative would work to “ensure that everyone … receives the experience day to which they are entitled or its equivalent.” I have reproduced Catherine’s reply in full below.

Almost exactly a week after my request for comment Nathalie, a representative from WeWanna, got back to me confirming that WeWanna had not stopped trading, but that they are in dispute with Purely Creative. They did not want to provide any further comment but did confirm that the matter is also hands of their legal advisers.

So something’s gone wrong between Purely Creative and WeWanna and they are both seeking legal advice on the matter. Purely Creative have gone on to say that they will ensure everyone who has been affected ends up being able to claim their prize. Therefore my advice if you’re affected by this would be to contact Purely Creative’s support department in the first instance. Purely Creative say the additional voucher is not something they have sanctioned so I would guess the best thing to do if this affects you is to contact WeWanna directly.

I hope that addresses some of the confusion people seemed to be expressing in their previous comments. I must point out that I am in no way connected to either of these companies, I’ve just taken up the baton from people who have commented on my previous blog posts. Everything In this post is taken from what I’ve been told by my readers or the companies themselves. I’d love for people to keep me updated on how they are getting on with the Purely Creative scratch cards and their experience days in the comments section.

Full Purely Creative Statement:

We can confirm that Purely Creative is engaged in dispute with WeWanna in relation to the provision of experience days to Purely Creative customers.

WeWanna acted as booking agent for experience days awarded as prizes in Purely Creative promotions.  Thousands of experience days have been enjoyed by our customers in the past year ( http://blog.purelycreative.com/ ) and WeWanna has accepted payment from Purely Creative in respect of a great many more experiences scheduled to take place in the coming months.

Regrettably, WeWanna is now failing to provide some of these outstanding experiences, and without consultation or authorisation from Purely Creative has written to an undisclosed number of Purely Creative customers informing them that their forthcoming bookings are cancelled and that WeWanna will not provide their experiences.

The matter is now in the hands of Purely Creative’s solicitors.

Purely Creative will ensure that everyone who has been affected by WeWanna’s actions receives the experience day to which they are entitled or its equivalent, irrespective of the progress of legal action.

Finally, we have also become aware that, without licence or permission, WeWanna is targeting Purely Creative customers with its own promotional material – and in particular inviting our customers to make payment of £14.99 for a ‘mystery gift’ of a voucher for holiday accommodation in Tenerife.  Purely Creative is not associated with this promotion in any way.   The same holiday accommodation voucher was recently distributed by Purely Creative to several thousand of its customers as a completely free gift.

[…] Update: following a string of comments relating to the relationship between Purely Creative and WeWanna, I’ve asked both parties for a comment. You can read about that in this blog post. […]

Further to my earlier posts, this is the latest from PurelyCreative:

We are sorry that you have experienced problems in receiving your experiences to which you are entitled as a result of participating in a Purely Creative promotions.

Please be assured that there is no question of Purely Creative avoiding its liability to provide you with the experiences to which you are entitled. We do not dispute your view that the contract is between you and Purely Creative Ltd, and that contract will be honoured.

WeWanna has provided Experience Day prizes to many thousands of Purely Creative customers since 2011, but we have recently been made aware of a problem in relation to some outstanding bookings.

To clarify, Purely Creative makes advance payment to WeWanna for Experience prizes, and it now appears that WeWanna has, without consultation, withheld a significant number of the experiences for which we have paid and that should have been enjoyed by our customers. In some cases it appears that confirmed bookings have been cancelled by WeWanna at short notice, without Purely Creative’s knowledge and in breach of the supply agreement.

We have been told that some of the monies paid to WeWanna by Purely Creative have in fact been paid to the end providers of the experiences in order to reserve capacity on behalf of our customers and that these experiences will therefore be provided in due course. However, we have not yet been told by WeWanna which of our customers’ experiences have been paid for and which have not. Our solicitors are currently seeking this information, along with the identities of the end providers of the experiences. As soon as it is obtained we will contact the providers directly and make arrangements for all experiences already paid for to be awarded, and re-purchase experiences for any customers for whom WeWanna has not paid.

This is obviously a cause of grave concern, and the matter is now in the hands of Purely Creative’s solicitors. All the relevant regulatory authorities, including our Home Authority Trading Standards Service in Lancashire, were informed of the situation as soon as WeWanna’s actions were brought to our attention.

Please be assured that we are resolved to ensure that every one of our customers who has been affected by WeWanna’s actions receives the experience to which they are entitled, irrespective of the progress of legal proceedings.

[snip]

Please be assured that you will receive the experiences to which you are entitled. As soon as we receive the outstanding information we will contact you to rearrange your booking. In the unlikely event that we are unsuccessful in obtaining the information within the next 30 days we will re-purchase your experience from an alternative provider.

We are very sorry for any disappointment or frustration caused as a result of WeWanna’s actions, and hope that you will bear with us whilst we resolve the matter.

[snip]

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. If you have any questions or require further information please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely

Thanks for keeping us updated.

NB: I’ve edited the reply from Purely Creative a little for space, but the important bits are still there.

Further than this I don’t know I’m afraid. The statements I got from the two companies was the last information I got.

I got a recent scratchcard which wasn’t offering this kind of prize any more, but rather cash prizes. I’ll write about that soon.

Posted on 23rd Oct 2013 at 1:38 pm by Jonathon.

I won 3 x hot air balloon rides, 2 x 3 course dinners, 1 x makeover
And photo shoot and 2 x holidays (one in Spain and one in Portugal).
For months I have been passed from Purely Creative to Wewanna.
Eventually I was assured after providing new dates for all the prizes
I would receive confirmation in the post. A couple of months later
And still nothing. Wewanna also told me they are now in legal
Dispute with Purely Creative and they sent a letter offering the
Consolation prize of a trip to Tenerife. I would like to know who
Got the money for the very expensive texts that had to be sent to redeem
Your prize as well as the cheques paid for deposits. Please publish
A contact email at Purely Creative. I’m happy to forward all the
Correspondence between myself and wewanna regarding the ‘prizes’ which
To date are non-existent!

I ‘won’ a week in Tenerife and went to Pearly Grey Ocean club. After checking their website I contacted Wewanna and put a direct question to them, “Will I be hassled by time share sales people?” The response was “No you’ve won the holiday they are not allowed to speak to you about timeshare” Wrong!! holiday ruined by sales staff who told me “we pay Wewanna £320 for you to come here and they are supposed to ‘weed out’ those who are not suitable because of low income and/or do not own their own home, you can’t expect to stay in a 4* resort for nothing” Will take it up with Purely Creative but don’t expect much of a result, my view was that it was a waste of money paying the airfare!!

Hi All,

I was given a ‘Buzz helecopter ride’ voucher as a christams present from my aunty 2 years ago. 6 Months later I booked the ride but because of the bad weather we recieved a letter from WEWANNA asking if we wanted to change our experience as there were a limited number of bookings now available and sent us a list of other experiences. The list included a 3 course meal for 2 a Carluccios, which is what we deceided to choose. After 2 months we has not heard anything from WEWANNA so I decided to contact them. They then told me that a company called ‘Purely Creative’ was incharge of our enquiry and to contact them. So I called them, but they said it was nothing to do with them and there was a dispute between the companies. I was then told I would be kept in the loop but never heard back from anyone. Around this time last year I received a letter from WEWANNA saying because of all of the disruption etc I was elegible for a ‘free gift’ so I choose the expandable garden hose (sad I know but it was for my mum)! Anyway I have still not receieved this item and everything I ring up I get no answers and I have basically given up on them now. I also recieved 2 letter about the mystery gift competition if you pay a upfront fee, which I never participated in. After all why would I give them more money after basically being robbed by them before?

If someone could give me an e-mail contact for someone at both companies I would like to get some answers. I am extreamly annoyed and its shocking that a company can essentially rob their customers and get away with it?

It looks like the WeWanna site has changed a lot since I was in contact with them. I don’t know any more information on the status of the company and I’m not going to give out the private email address I have for them so I’m afraid I can’t help with that. However Purely Creative can be contacted on the email address they publish on their site — support@purelycreative.com — and in my experience have been very quick and helpful in their responses.

I came across this page when googling the Pearly Grey Ocean Club after my father won a free holiday with them from a scratch card! He had already won a free weekend in Windsor with them, which in all fairness he did actually go on and enjoy. However, that was obviously used by the company to get your trust.
His emails are forwarded to mine thankfully, and as soon as I saw it bells started ringing, so being my sceptical self I decided to look into it further and was not surprised with what I found.

I won Tenerife holiday from them too, as well traveller, who been to Tenerife many times, what tey quoted me is just ridiculous, I usually find much much much cheaper holidays anywhere in the world online. So Purely Creative a ripp off! Would tell all my friends and family to give them a miss! Day light robbery!

Posted on 28th Mar 2015 at 3:25 pm by Jaz.

I won hot air balloon rides x2, Thames cruises, Meals for 2, Hairdressing experiences that were not fulfilled. I was told that I would be contacted when they had taken WeWanna to court and my prizes would be rebooked. I have recently been in touch, they say I will get my prizes and have passed it on to the MD now as I said if I don’t here from them in 2 weeks I will be seeking legal advice.
I don’t know if I’ll hear from them or will have to find out who to complain to.

Regards
Kim
