It struck me today when I added an old acquaintance to Facebook just now: we’re all growing up. We’re all becoming real adults. All the people I’ve know for years — since school, through college, university and now work — we’re all standing on our own two feet. We’re all real grown ups now. And we kind of look it.
I don’t think you really realise you’ve changed all that much (not counting if you change your look on purpose), but seeing pictures of this friend again, having not seen her since secondary school, made me realise that we all have done really. You can tell who she is, but now she’s a gorgeous young woman.
Ben mentioned it last week too (I’ve still to write about that, I know). Another of our friends has moved back home from London and we were talking about taking a little holiday as a group at some point next year and he said “It has the potential to be fun. We might all kill each other — every one’s changed so much — but it could be fun”. That struck me. We must have changed. Timothy’s getting married next year, Scott’s moved back home with his girlfriend having lived and worked in London, Ben’s running his own theatre company, I’m living down here with Dana working freelance. Every one’s grown up.
In all honesty I’m not going anywhere with this. Mostly because I don’t know what to think. It’s great, and we are all still young, but it’s kind of odd to think about it when you’ve known these people so long.
