Either my new look is working, or at least two people were very drunk on Saturday night. Given that I know at least two people were very drunk on Saturday night it doesn’t sound all that promising, but I’m not going to let that get me down. [read more]
Welcome to 2009, if a little late.
To be honest I don’t have much to write about over Christmas and New Year. Christmas day was spent at my brother’s house in York. My parents collected my Grandma on Christmas eve, she stayed at their house for the night, we went to York about lunch time on Christmas day, and then my parents took Grandma home again that night. I got to stay at my brother’s for the night. That was OK in the end. I was a little worried about how that would go — my brother and I aren’t really all that close, although we do get on well, and I’m not really all that talkative — but it turned out fine. We played a board game which I won, and my brother’s wife got a little bit tipsy which made conversation go a little more easily. [read more]
It may be a day later than I had planned, but I’m on my way. The penultimate train, in fact. I appreciate that for normal people, saying that would be a little strange, but given it takes me 3 trains and two tubes to get back up to my parent’s house, it gives you an indication of just where abouts I am. It is, actually, the most significant train of the trip both size and time wise (although if you add up all the other trains it’s less than half the total journey time). But anyway. [read more]
I’ve finally got my Christmas shopping started. Hurray. I might have only managed to get something for my parents, but at least it’s started. I also have an idea for my brother and sister-in-law. I still have next Sunday to finish off before I go back up north, and I might do some shopping on Wednesday if I get chance. I also managed to get my mum’s birthday present and I have plans for my dad’s. [read more]
It struck me today when I added an old acquaintance to Facebook just now: we’re all growing up. We’re all becoming real adults. All the people I’ve know for years — since school, through college, university and now work — we’re all standing on our own two feet. We’re all real grown ups now. And we kind of look it.
I don’t think you really realise you’ve changed all that much (not counting if you change your look on purpose), but seeing pictures of this friend again, having not seen her since secondary school, made me realise that we all have done really. You can tell who she is, but now she’s a gorgeous young woman. [read more]
“dont hate me when stories are told”, that’s the message the person I, urm, ‘got to know’ on Friday night posted on her boyfriend’s Facebook wall on Saturday. [read more]
What a twat. Excuse my language, but what a fucking twat.
Guess who I’m talking about. Yeah, it’s Tim. Dana’s not very well — she’s got a pain in her lower abdominal area which has been bothering her for a few days, and today it got worse. So she went to the doctor today and they gave her some antibiotics for the infection she’s had, but they also said it might be apendicitis. That’s a bit worrying in my eyes and I know it can take a turn for the worse very quickly. [read more]
So Tim lost his job. Oh well.
Let me explain. Tim is an animator, he draws stuff. Currently he works for Rare, a computer game studio owned by Microsoft. It seems that this industry, like most industries based around the arts, is pretty fickle and unstable. When there’s work on it’s great, when there isn’t then there’s a whole load of talented people all looking for work doing the same thing. His contract was only ever short — 3 months I think initially extended to 6 months — working on the little rip-off Wii Mii things Microsoft are releasing as part of their XBox 360 dashboard enhancements this autumn. He heard today that they wouldn’t be extending his contract simply because they don’t have any work for them to do. [read more]
It’s an unnerving experience when you are buried in your work, take a quick break, look out of the window and find yourself looking either at the ground or up into the air. Still I’m not going to complain – it’s a good thing because it means the train is managing to reach it’s top speed. On the way up north we were stuck in ‘non-tilt mode’, apparently. This time we clearly are not. I think I could make that say something about how the south views the north, but I’m sure it’s nothing to do with that. [read more]
Isn’t it funny how one person can make you feel so many different emotions? Maybe ‘so many’ is probably not the best turn of phrase in this case; possibly ‘such strong’ might have fitted better. Isn’t it even stranger how they can do it without apparently even realising how it’s them affecting your feelings? [read more]
